I’ve been a lover of photography since I was young. As a child, I’d go through more than my fair share of disposable cameras, taking pictures of our kid adventures in Maine. In high school, I took some film photography classes and eventually decided to start The Ally Renee Blog so I could explore my writing//photography more. Even so, it’s rare that I get to photograph people. So, when Lauren, my beautiful best friend, said she would model for me throughout our Fall Break adventures, I was so so excited.

Lauren flew out from Philadelphia to Colorado. We had three days touring around, seeing the sights before we had to fly back to Villanova University. One of our tourist stops was in 5 Points, Denver, CO. Now, if you are from the Denver area, then you might have just cringed at the thought of two twenty-something girls touring through 5 Points. Trust, me, I did the same when Lauren brought up wanting to see some wall murals in that area. But, to my surprise, the area has really changed in the last few years, transforming quickly from a run-down slum to a beer-lovers heaven. There are so many new breweries popping up with little restaurants alongside them! Around the back, in a hidden back alley behind these new establishments, is probably one of my new favorite hidden gems in Denver, CO.

For blocks, the alley is just covered with huge, towering wall murals, all clashing together in their mismatched, geometric, rhythmic, colorful designs. And it’s beautiful.

So, naturally, I had Lauren pose at almost every wall along the stretch. Three hundred pictures later, and I think they turned out pretty cool if I do say so myself. I’m obsessed with the lighting and how that plays off the background in this collection of photographs. It doesn’t hurt to have a gorgeous best friend either!
